College of Mount Saint Joseph News - Jonathan Mooney to Speak at Mount

Author and activist Jonathan Mooney will speak at the College of Mount St. Joseph on Monday, April 14, in the College Theatre at 7 p.m.

The author of "The Short Bus - A Journey Beyond Normal," Mooney has traveled around the country challenging the conceptions of normalcy established by society. He is one of the leading authorities on LD/ADHD disabilities and alternative education, and is the founder and president of Project Eye-To-Eye, a mentoring and advocacy nonprofit organization for students with learning differences. He frequently speaks at colleges and to students of all ages around the nation.

In the summer of 2002, Mooney converted an old short school bus into an RV and travelled the country, exploring the disability culture in America. In 2007 he published "The Short Bus," which is a memoir of what he encountered on the journey. In his presentation at the Mount, Mooney will talk about his trip and tell about some of the individuals with disabilities who he encountered.

This free event is sponsored by Ohio TASH - Promoting Equity, Opportunity, and Inclusion for People with Disabilities. The author will be available for book signings after the event.
